He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
