He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing and joyful, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
