He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
