He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he feareth 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, joyous; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
