He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 fruits, and grass. 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
