He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
