He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
