He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to a rich man, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
