He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honourable pages. 13 lofty and pure, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
