He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
