He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
