He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
