He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
