He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 with darkness overspread: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
