He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
