He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
