He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
