He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
