He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to a rich man, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
