He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him you attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble, pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
