He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he feareth 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
