He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
