He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
