He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
