He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble, pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
