He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
