He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
