He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 lofty and pure, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
