He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
