He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
