He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he feareth 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
