He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
