He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 fruits, and grass. 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
