He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Dust shall cover them 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
