He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
