He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
