He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
