He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
