He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
