He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
