He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
