He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
