He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
