He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
