He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
