The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun is wound up; 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains are made to pass away, 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 when the savage beasts are gathered 5 And when the seas shall become as blazing Fire or shall overflow; 6 when the souls are divided into different classes, 7 and when the girl-child that was buried alive is made to ask 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 and when the scrolls of (men's) deeds shall be unfolded, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 And when Paradise is brought near. 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 that hide, 16 And the night when it departs, 17 The rising dawn, 18 Most surely it is the Word of an honored messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 The one who is obeyed, and trustworthy. (Other angels obey angel Jibreel). 21 And your companion is not insane. 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 For the one among you who wishes to become upright. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
