The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is wound up; 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 and the mountains have been taken, 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 And when the wild beasts are herded together, 5 when the seas are set boiling, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what sin she was slain. 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 hell is made to blaze, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 Who move straight and stop. 16 by the night when it approaches 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, 19 Owner of power, and high rank with (Allah) the Lord of the Throne, 20 With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust. 21 Your companion is not one possessed: 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Then where are you going? 26 This is naught but an admonition unto the worlds 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
