The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 And when the stars fall down. 2 when the mountains shall be set moving, 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 And when wild animals are herded together. 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 and when Heaven is laid bare; 11 when Hell is set ablaze, 12 and Paradise brought nigh: 13 (Then) every soul will know what it had prepared (for itself). 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 Moving swiftly and hiding themselves, 16 and sit during the day, or by the darkening night 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 Truly, this is the word brought by a noble messenger, 19 The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion, 20 The one who is obeyed, and trustworthy. (Other angels obey angel Jibreel). 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 he truly beheld [the angel - beheld] him on the clear horizon; 23 he is not niggardly of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 For him among you who pleases to go straight. 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
