The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is folded up, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 And when the camels are left untended, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 And when the souls shall be joined with their bodies; 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 For what sin she was killed 9 when the records of men's deeds are laid open, 10 And when the sky is stripped away 11 And when the hell is kindled up, 12 And when Paradise is brought near. 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 Obeyed one; then trustworthy. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 He is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 This is naught but an admonition unto the worlds 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
