The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun is folded up, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 the young barren camels are abandoned, 4 And when the wild beasts shall be gathered together, 5 And when the seas rise, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 For what sin she was slain. 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 When Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 The stars which rise and set, 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, 19 with strength endowed, secure with Him who in almightiness is enthroned 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 And your companion is not gone mad. 22 Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon. 23 He (Muhammad) is not accused of lying about the unseen. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 When whither go ye? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
